Saying about the lantern, everyone always think to Hoian Lantern Festival. At the first time, one large-scale lantern festival organizes ever in Hanoi with the name Vietnam – Korea Giant Lantern Festival.

The first lantern festival

The event are taking place from December 3rd, 2016 to January 22nd, 2017 at Gamuda city urban area in Hanoi.

The Festival is one of the key activities to mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea Korea. The festival is not only an opportunity for the two countries to exchange culture but also strengthen the friendship cooperation. This is the largest event chain for anniversary in Vietnam.
At the Gamuda features 40 giant lanterns (each 10-30 metres in height) that show the three aspects of Vietnamese and Korean culture that are Peace, Love and Hope.

Visitors can watch the brilliant lanterns with their families, meanwhile enjoy K-pop music concerts, Taekwondo exhibitions, traditional musical instrument performances, cover dancing events as well as games that also held here. Moreover, they will be served with food, entertainment by nearly 200 exhibition booths.

The Giant Lantern Festival

For Korea, the festival is an annual tradition in Seoul where for 70 days each year historical-subject lanterns go on exhibition throughout cities of the country. The Giant Lantern Festival that held in many developed countries such as UK, the US and Japan with the international scale has attracted millions of visitors annually. Not like the Hoian festival of lantern, the Giant Lantern festival is bigger and brings more activities during the festival time. For example, “The Run for children’s hearts” is one of the volunteer activities that held for festival occasion. It is expected to attract 15,000 participants, gain 2.5 billion VND to support heart surgery for children with congenital diseases.

Therefore , the Giant Lantern Festival is expected to welcome 10,000-50,000 visitors per day.
