The Art Show

On 18 December, the exhibition of 50 lacquer, oil and acrylic paintings drawn by artist Van Duong Thanh will display to welcome the Lunar New Year.

The exhibition saw the participate of Swedish Ambassador Pereric Hogberg, former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh and representatives of foreign embassies, students and art fans.

Thanh impressionistic style described the architecture and atmosphere of the old citadel as well as modern Hanoi nowadays. People can see the effect of the folk art in her works. The features of Tran Temple, But Thap Pagoda and Dong Ho paintings are shown obviously. At the exhibition, there are both still-life paintings for Tet Holiday and paintings of Hanoi’s streets.

For the still-life section, peach flower trees from Nhat Tan Village, the lily flowers, golden chrysanthemums are all featured. Meanwhile, many streets in the Old Quarter and The Huc Bridge on Hoan Kiem Lake are presented for Hanoi streets.

The Dinh Dau Spring and Art Gallery opens up to 18 January 2017 at White Lotus C29, 210 Nghi Tàm, Tây Hồ district.

Contribution To The Country Art

Though one of Asia’s most accomplished and talented international female artists, Văn Dương Thành has lived and worked in Sweden for more than 20 years. She graduated from Ha Noi University of Art.

Her art is a combination of academic European with traditional Asian styles. She has used oil-paint techniques to show the stirs and feelings of nature, culture and people into artworks. With her impressive contribution to art, she is working as the Ambassador of Culture and Art of Viet Nam. Her work has been displayed at many National Museums such as Sweden, Spain, Poland, Singapore and Thailand. She has also opened an gallery in Ha Noi.

In 2009, Vietnam Poor Children Welfare Foundation, HTV9, Vietnam Television and Unilever Company held an online auction of her paintings to raise money for poor children to enjoy Tet.

Up to 2011, Thanh opened non-profit gallery for three years to contribute to poverty reduction programme with United Nations Development Programme in Hanoi. She gave the rights of 100 paintings to UNDP and UNICEF.

In the past 10 years, Thanh has donated many paintings to raise fund for disadvantaged children and joined in programmes that helped build houses for poor people in Ke Sat Town started by former US President Jimmy Carter.
